A hurricane blew out an earthen dam at a nunnery in Kingstree, SC. The dam held back water, creating a pond, that many visitors used to kayak. Instead of bringing in heavy equipment and destroying an old growth swamp to repair the dam, SRG built a beaver dam analog to repair the dam. Designed by Robinson Design Engineers, SRG sourced, cut, and packed timber alongside the dam to repair the breech. Once the entire length of the dam was reinforced with local timber, stakes were driven into the muck and the dam was cinched down with coconut coir twine. The final step of the project involved sourcing black willow live stakes and planting on the backside of the dam for further reinforcement and food for beavers.
